It has been a few very interesting weeks around

It has been a few very interesting weeks around here. The last time I left a note we were all set to have Christmas. The tree was going up and the cookies were about to be made. Well now it is after New Years, the tree has been put away and all the cookies have been eaten. We went back to work last Monday as difficult as it was.

DSC02430Where do I begin? We started off our Christmas holidays off with Christmas day. We worked right up until Christmas Eve. Christmas morning was not full of opening presents like I’m used to , instead we headed up to a good friend of the family’s for cocktails and seafood kebabs. Most o f the community came out to wish everyone a Merry Christmas before heading home for their Christmas dinners. We had a nice Christmas dinner with all of the Muggeridge’s with turkey, ham, Canadian homemade dressing, and plenty of salads. The dessert consisted of pavlova, Dylan’s Linzetorte, and my pumpkin pie. It was a delicious Christmas dinner. The gift opening followed the meal and I was designated the official gift fairy. The rest of the day everyone mostly dispersed, Dylan and I went to stay at Robyn and Ian’s for the night.  Boxing day we headed down to the beach. Dylan and I both got fishing rods for Christmas from Dyl’s parents so we headed out for a fish on boxing day. The next week was full of either fishing or relaxing. DylDSC02466 fished everyday but I had to take a few breaks.

New Years Eve Dylan and I, Seth, and a friend headed up to Mahia beach. We were meeting a bunch of Seth’s other friends there for the night. It was a quick trip but well worth it to spend New Years in the first place in the world to see the sunshine in 2009. We didn’t stay up until sunrise but it was nice to be there. New years day we headed back down to Kairakau beach to sign up for fishing competition on January 2nd. Dylan went on Brent’s boat for the day. I managed to find my way onto a boat that had an extra spot. We didn’t win much on our boat but Dylan’s crew came second in the biggest shark, and second in the most variety of fish. A nice weekend spent on the ocean.

DSC02500Then as much of a bummer as it was we headed back to work on Monday. We went back to the regular routine. This past weekend was another exciting one. It was the Elsthorpe Sports day, a day in which the Muggeridges are the main organisers. John Muggeridge told me that day it was his 57th year at the sports day in Elsethorpe.  It is mainly anDSC02512 equestrian day of show jumpers that come to perform certain events. Seth and Darryl are in charge of the jumps, Donna hospitality and Brent as president the overall of the day. There were heaps of other activities going on throughout the day. A closest to the pin golf shot, sheep dog training of an obstacle course (like on Babe the pig movie ha), and of course the ram rides for the kids. Yes that’s right its a mini rodeo of kids who DSC02517get there 8 seconds on the back of a ram. No harnesses of ropes though, just your arms around the sheep’s neck.  After the horse people had filtered off the events were followed by a BBQ, and an auction of items donated by the sponsors of the day, loads of fencing and farming equipment. I didn’t find anything to bid on though.  Sunday was the cleanup day which was almost as interesting as the day itself.

After another big weekend it was back to work Monday, but we managed to cut our week short this time, yesterday we took the day to go up to Napier to see an international cricket match. New Zealand Black Caps were playing the West Indes. It was a great day with our picnic and hanging out on a blanket in the sun. Unfortunately the game came to an end around  7pm when it started to rain.DSC02535

Well that has been the highlights of our past month. We are heading back to work today and will be working until the end of January, when we will start to get our things sorted for moving to Wellington.  I hope everyone had a great Christmas and holidays. We would sure love to see a few more comments on here. If you happen to cruise by and read up on what were up to please leave a quick note note to say hi. Cheers and have a great week.
